The EnlightenmentThe Enlightenment also known as the Age of Reason was a period in the 1800's that help society become what it is today. At that time science was changing for the better of mankind. Many of the greatest mind came from that period but the most influential was Sir Isaac Newton, who reinvented the way we see science as a whole. Even though his theories were a little off he began to make us wonder why life went on a certain way . Finally our government went through a lot of changes because people started to say that why should one person rule if that's what they were trying to avoid in the first place. In this effort we got a democracy government and the Declaration of Independence came from this period like so many other important documents of that period.

Political Satire of TodayThis is satire in a political cartoon by Meryl K. Evans of the Dallas Morning News. This political cartoon involves educational reform by having devices that show its meaning. One device being used is, hyperbole (exaggeration) it is used by putting an energy bar and an energy drink in front of the boy. Showing that it takes so much energy out of you that you need something extra to take a STAAR test. Another device being used in this cartoon is tone, shown by his facial expression when he answers back to the comment made about school being exciting. Wit is also being used in the cartoon when does one ever say they are excited to go to school. The cartoon shows that there is too much focus being put on standardized testing in our schools. The values are against authentic learning and standardized test. STAAR testing is taking the fun out school making students want to not attend. It shows that more teachers are focusing more in test scores than on actual learning.

Children Having Children
My newspaper is to going to satirize newspapers that make teen girls think pregnancy is okay . The theme is “influencing teen girls to become young mothers.” The tone in my newspaper is sarcasm. I am trying to show that a lot of teen girls are very irresponsible and they aren’t prepared to become teen moms at a young age. I exaggerated many things in the mock newspaper. For example, I exaggerate on how you should become pregnant. I also exaggerate a lot on the perks of becoming a teen mom. Verbal Irony is used frequently in my article. When I say “ you should definitely get pregnant” of course I am using sarcasm and I mean the complete opposite of what is being stated. In my article, I use sympathy to make it seem like students would be sympathetic and do things for pregnant teen. For example, In the instance of a teen girl having pregnancy symptoms such as craving chips; the audience knows students would not react with sympathy towards the pregnant teen. The social problem I intend to solve is teen pregnancy. Teen girls shouldn’t think it’s okay to become a parent at such a young age. Shows like Teen Mom only encourage young girls to think positively of Pregnancy at a young age.
